Band Saw Safety Instructions
1. Always wear eye protection when using the band saw.
2. Remove all loose clothing and jewelry with the band saw OFF.
3. Make sure that the saw blade is properly tensioned and tracking on the wheels. Accidents happen when the blade is improperly tension or dull , these require more pressure which in turn causes more risk of a hand slipping into the saw.
4. Set the guide so that there is a ¼” clearance above the stock to be sawed.
5. Make sure there are no scraps of wood either on the floor or table of the saw.
6. Stand in front of the band saw when working, never at the side.
7. Allow no one to stand at the side while you work. If the saw blade should break, it will fly outward and could cause serious injury.
8. Do not talk to any one while working nor permit anyone to talk to you. Stop the machine if you must talk.
9. If you hear a clicking noise, stop the machine. The blade may be cracked and if so, must be replaced.
10. Do not push stock through the saw after the power is shut off and while the saw is still in motion.
11. If it is necessary to stop sawing in the middle of a long cut, cut through the waste stock. Do not attempt to back out, as the saw may come off the wheels.
12. Make sure the saw is going at full speed before you start cutting.
13. In cutting some types of curves, including sharp inside corners, round holes should be bored at suitable places. Then the saw can be used to cut the more gradual curves.
14. A good general principle to follow in cutting curved work is to rough cut through as much as possible by cutting kerfs (relief cuts) and removing waste stock, and then trim to the cutting line.
